Magnetic sand or iron filings are very small pieces of iron that look like light powder.
Magnetic sand is used to attract what you desire. Conjure workers put a little of it in a red flannel bag with other lucky pieces inside, such as mercury dime, lodestone, or nutmeg, to bring good luck to anyone who possesses it.
This iron powder is often used in money and love magic, particularly in conjunction with lodestones. It is traditional to feed them with it to get and keep them working.
It can also be used in candle magic by dressing a green candle first with Money-Drawing or Prosperity oils, then rolling the candle in magnetic sand to draw cash.
Some folks add a pinch of magnetic sand and pieces of lodestone to any conjure oils, especially Magnet, Lodestone, Fast Luck, or Attraction oils. The magnetic interaction between the lodestones and the iron filings increases their power of attraction.
I heard that some people in the South who are visiting conjure doctors ask for some magnetic sand that can be obtained from a pair of 'mated' lodestones used for love drawing. It is said that sprinkling this at the feet of the desired person or at their foot tracks will draw him into love or romance.
